Richland rallies past state power SL Carroll

The Richland baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally for a 5-3 win over Southlake Carroll, the state’s third-ranked 5A team. Broderick Jackson pitched six innings for Richland to get the win.

Carroll (22-3, 8-2) stayed tied with Keller Fossil Ridge for first place in District 4-5A. Keller scored two runs in the seventh to tie it, then got a game-winning RBI single from Phil Young in the bottom of the eighth to beat Fossil Ridge, 5-4.

Walk-off win for Bryan Adams

Freshman Kirby Lohrengel hit a game-winning sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to give the Bryan Adams baseball team a 4-3 win over Woodrow Wilson. Woodrow Wilson’s Jacob Salmon had tied the score with a two-out, two-run double in the top of the seventh.

It was the first 12-4A loss for Woodrow Wilson, which had won its first 10 district games by a combined score of 164-1, including a 15-0 victory over Bryan Adams (12-7, 9-2).

BASEBALL

Conner Dotson, Flower Mound Marcus: The West Virginia signee threw a two-hit shutout and struck out 11 as District 5-5A leader Marcus (23-4, 8-2), the state's 10th-ranked 5A team, beat Lewisville, 6-0.

Cole Carter, Allen: The West Virginia signee pitched a six-hitter, struck out seven and went 2-for-3 as Allen beat District 10-5A leader Plano, 3-1.

Cameron Yates, Frisco Wakeland: Threw a four-hit shutout as No. 7 Frisco Wakeland beat No. 3 Prosper, 1-0, in a matchup of area-ranked 4A teams.

Devin Gifford, Plano East: Was 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs in a 13-2 win over Plano West.

SOFTBALL

Michaela Cochran, Ennis: The Texas Tech pledge was 4-for-5 with five RBIs as the state's seventh-ranked 4A team beat No. 10 Mansfield Legacy, 9-5, and clinched the 15-4A title.

Delaney Todd, Duncanville: Pitched a three-hitter in a 2-1 win over Mansfield, the state's 16th-ranked 5A team. It gave Mansfield Timberview a one-game lead in 7-5A over Mansfield.

Christi Flanigan, North Forney: Struck out 12 and was 3-for-4 with a home run as the state's fifth-ranked 4A team beat Carrollton Newman Smith, 13-1.

McKenna Henry, McKinney Boyd: Was 4-for-4 with three RBIs in a 9-0 win vs. Allen. Boyd is tied with Plano West for first in 10-5A.

STAT SHEET

2: Home runs hit by Allison Strittmatter as defending 2A softball state champion Pilot Point clinched a district championship with an 11-1 win over Gunter.

11: Strikeouts for Mesquite Poteet softball pitcher Cassie Vasquez, who also hit a game-winning RBI single in the top of the seventh in a 4-3 win vs. Carrollton Creekview.

23: Consecutive games without a loss for the Flower Mound softball team, which got a home run and three RBIs from LSU pledge Sydney Springfield and beat Hebron, 10-1.
