Mineola falls to Lufkin Hudson, 12-9, in 3A softball final

AUSTIN — Alyssa Dotson had five RBIs, and Lufkin Hudson withstood a big seventh-inning rally to beat Mineola, 12-9, on Saturday to claim its second straight Class 3A state championship.

Hudson (38-7-1) scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take a 12-2 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Kelsee Selman retired the first two batters before Mineola (31-9) mounted an improbable rally against the LSU signee.

There were six hits, two walks, an error and a hit batter as 10 straight Mineola batters reached base with two outs. Mineola scored seven runs and had the bases loaded after cutting Hudson’s lead to 12-9. But with the potential tying run on base, Selman got a groundout to first base to end the game.

Bryli Lee was 3-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs for Hudson, and leadoff batter Alyssa Pierce was 4-for-5 and scored twice.
