PITCHER OF THE YEAR HEATHER STEARNS Hebron, Sr.
Notable: The Baylor signee was named the Gatorade Texas Softball Player of the Year and the Texas Girls Coaches Association's 5A-4A state player of the year. She was an all-state pick for the third straight year. Stearns was 18-9 with a 1.29 ERA and 313 strikeouts and only 40 walks in 190 innings. Stearns hit 15 home runs — tied for the second-most by an area player — and had a .413 batting average and 41 RBIs to lead Hebron to the 5A Region I final. She hit four home runs in a game against Pilot Point, falling one short of the national record for homers in a game.
Did you know? Stearns has a 3.21 grade-point average, has volunteered at a homeless shelter and food bank and has taught Sunday School.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR BROOKE McCARROLL SS, Forney, Jr.
Notable: She led all Dallas-area players in home runs with 16 and helped Forney reach the Class 4A state tournament for the second straight season. McCarroll hit .392 with 52 RBIs and 39 runs in 42 games, and 55 percent of her hits went for extra bases. She had six home runs and 17 RBIs in 11 playoff games, including a home run in a loss to Montgomery in a state semifinal. McCarroll said she has committed to UT-San Antonio.
Did you know? McCarroll played basketball as a sophomore and said she's planning to play the sport again as a senior.
