Game 2 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Rockwall, with a third and deciding game, if necessary, at noon Saturday at Plano West.
Natalie Mayhall added a two-run homer and posted four runs batted in as part of a 12-hit attack for Forney (29-6-2) against Rockwall freshman Kayla Vandergriff.
Penn’s home run gave Forney a 3-0 lead with nobody out in the first inning. It followed consecutive infield singles by Micah Fitzgerald and Jasmine Lusk, along with a throwing error.
Forney added three more runs with three consecutive two-out singles in the third inning. Laura Mabary singled to left to score Penn, and Mayhall drove home two runs with a hit to right field.
Mayhall’s home run came with two outs in the fifth inning, following a single by Mabary.

Rockwall (25-11) scored its run in the fifth inning on a bunt by Carlie Jenkins that scored courtesy runner Peyton Mills. Cyndi Bertrand recorded two hits for Rockwall, which had multiple base runners in two other innings but failed to score
Danielle Najera allowed one earned run in five innings for Forney, with no walks and one strikeout. Allison Brown pitched the final two innings.
The winner of the series will face either Ennis or Frisco Wakeland next week in the regional final.
