Softball player of the week (3/21): Royse City's Alicia Pille

What she did: Pille pitched a one-hit shutout and struck out 19 in a 7-0 win over Texarkana Texas High as Royse City improved to 3-0 in District 13-4A. That followed back-to-back perfect games that Pille pitched against Mount Pleasant and Sulphur Springs, which both made the playoffs in 2010.

Who is she? A senior pitcher who has signed with Kansas.

The stats: Pille is 10-3 with a 0.84 ERA and 189 strikeouts in 83 innings for the state’s sixth-ranked Class 4A team. She has hit four home runs.

She said it: When asked if she thought about the fact she was going for three straight perfect games, Pille said, “I just try to think about one batter at a time and hit my spots.’’

Coach said it: “One of her perfect games she said, ‘I didn’t do very good. I missed my spots a couple of times.’ Even with her perfect games, it’s a ‘I can get better’ mentality.” — Michelle Booker

Did you know? Pille plans to major in exercise science and wants to pursue a career as an occupational therapist. … Pille ran cross country this season and helped Royse City qualify for regionals.
