Rushing game lifts Kimball to 38-31 win over Seagoville

Kimball rushed for 305 yards - led by two long first-quarter touchdown runs by Daveon Johnson - for a 38-31 victory Friday night at Sprague Stadium that prevented Seagoville from clinching a playoff berth.

Seagoville (6-2, 4-1 in District 11-4A) turned the ball over four times. Kimball (6-2, 4-1 in 11-4A) sealed the win when Christopher Jones returned an interception 13 yards for a touchdown with 25 seconds left in the game.

Johnson scored touchdowns the first two times he carried the ball. The first came on a 60-yard run less than two minutes into the game, and the second on an 82-yard run with 4:52 remaining in the first quarter.

Johnson broke through an early line of tacklers on both runs before turning to the outside and sprinting down the right sideline.

Both teams began the game with a flurry of offensive fireworks. Seagoville's Charleston Fleming returned the opening kickoff 72 yards for a touchdown, and Johnson scored his first touchdown on Kimball's third play from scrimmage.

Seagoville's offense moved the ball consistently in the first half, but it lost three fumbles in the process. The second led to Johnson's 82-yard run two plays later.

Johnson finished the game with eight carries for 177 yards, while Seagoville quarterback Kelton Coleman completed 12 of 22 pass attempts for 207 yards and one touchdown. He also scored Seagoville's final two touchdowns.
