McKinney Boyd cashes in on two interceptions, defeats Rowlett, 41-17
MCKINNEY - Tanner Larson and Jarrell Humphrey each returned an interception for a touchdown in a 21-point third quarter as McKinney Boyd routed Rowlett 41-17.
Boyd (7-2, 5-1 District 10-5A) led 17-10 on Jonovan Griffin's 29-yard second-quarter touchdown pass to Cameron Decell, and it could have been worse had Chase Williams not recovered a fumble to stop another Boyd drive at the Rowlett 19 just seconds before the half.
But Rowlett quarterback Colton Kalmus' pass on the first play of the second half bounced off the hands of his receiver and into the arms of Larson, who returned the ball 22 yards to make it 24-10 Boyd.
Rowlett was forced to punt on its next drive, and Boyd promptly marched 78 yards in eight plays to get a 14-yard touchdown run from Kevin Dibia.
Two plays later, Kalmus threw an ill-advised pass from his own goal line under heavy pressure. Humphrey picked it off and strolled into the end zone from four yards out.
Griffin led Boyd with one touchdown and 101 yards on the ground and another 154 yards and a touchdown through the air. Bryan Driskell added 100 yards rushing on 21 carries.
Treyvon Green had 80 yards rushing and a touchdown for Rowlett.
