Wylie improves 10-4A positioning after blowout win vs. Richardson Pearce
WYLIE - In a game Wylie needed, the team got off to a hot start and never looked back, defeating Richardson Pearce, 42-12. Pearce (4-5, 3-3) was one of four teams tied with Wylie (6-3, 4-2) for second in 10-4A coming into the night.
Jermaine Merdock and Vincent Bryan powered Wylie's offense, while the defense came up with crucial stops every time Pearce threatened early.
Merdock helped Wylie build a 28-6 halftime lead by hauling in two first-half touchdowns from quarterback Nico Ramirez, who had three touchdowns and only one incompletion during the half.
Ramirez's first touchdown was a 22-yard screen pass that Merdock took up the sideline to give Wylie a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. The second was on a post pattern that Merdock busted open for a 72-yard score to put Wylie up 28-6 later in the quarter.
Merdock finished with nine receptions for 170 yards and two touchdowns and had a touchdown on the ground. Bryan added 138 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
The Wylie defense did its part as well, led by Andre Moseley, who recovered a fumble and recorded one of the team's three interceptions.
Mac Morse started at quarterback for Pearce after leaving the last game with an injury. He finished with 384 yards passing and two touchdowns. Jared Floyd had 12 catches for 115 yards and both Pearce touchdowns.
