Frisco Liberty girls beat state-ranked Wakeland

In a battle for first place in District 9-4A, the Frisco Liberty girls rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to post a 59-54 win over Frisco Wakeland, the state’s 25th-ranked Class 4A team.

Sophomore forward Bria Frierson scored a game-high 22 points, grabbed 12 rebounds — nine offensive — and had five steals for Liberty (14-10, 6-0). Beatrice Attura and Kayla Mundy scored 13 apiece to help Liberty gain sole possession of first place in 9-4A, one game ahead of Wakeland. Liberty outscored Wakeland, 20-9, in the third quarter to take a 40-37 lead.

BOYS STANDOUTS

AJ Moutry, McKinney, guard: The senior scored 42 points — 10 in overtime — as McKinney rallied from a six-point deficit in the final 1:12 of OT to beat Wylie East, 83-80. After scoring 54 points in Friday's double-overtime win over Richardson Pearce, Moutry made 19 of 21 free throws to help McKinney improve to 4-0 in District 10-4A.

Julius Randle, Prestonwood, forward: One of the nation's top recruits in the Class of 2013 was 22-of-30 from the field and scored 50 points in a 94-63 win vs. Fort Worth Nolan.

David Allen, Highland Park, guard: Scored 25 points as Highland Park (17-2, 4-0 in 10-4A) beat Rockwall-Heath, 48-46. He has scored 83 points in his last three games.

Brandon Pye, Mansfield Timberview, guard: Scored 26 in a 62-45 victory against Grand Prairie.

GIRLS STANDOUTS

Kiara Davis, North Crowley, guard: With Texas A&M signee Chelsea Jennings out with a minor thumb injury, Davis hit six 3-pointers and scored 37 points as North Crowley beat Arlington Martin, 67-49, and moved to 6-0 in District 4-5A.

Chelsea Savage, Little Elm, guard: Made six 3-pointers — five in the first quarter — and scored 27 points in a 56-35 win vs. Lake Dallas.

Nina Fofang, B.J. Chaney, Frisco Heritage, forward/post: Both players had 26 points and 18 rebounds in a 64-45 win vs. Carrollton R.L. Turner.

Candice Followwell, Sachse, guard: Scored 24 points as Sachse (6-0 in 10-5A) beat Garland Naaman Forest, 40-28.

Aubrey Allison, Frisco Legacy, guard: Scored 34 points in a 62-47 win against Carrollton Christian.

The Southlake Carroll girls beat Saginaw, 44-30, and haven’t allowed more than 30 points in a district game. Carroll (22-2, 6-0), ranked fourth in the state in 5A, has a one-game lead in District 7-5A. … The Mansfield Summit girls, ranked No. 4 in the state in 4A, allowed four points in the second half — none in the fourth quarter — in a 59-10 win over Joshua. North Carolina State signee Ashley Eli had 15 points for Summit (22-3, 6-0 District 7-4A).

In a battle between unbeaten teams in 5-5A, the South Grand Prairie boys beat Duncanville, 53-43. … Kaitlyn Read scored 25 points — 19 in the second and third quarters — in the Highland Park girls’ 62-36 win over Rockwall-Heath.
