Season superlatives: Michael Oldham named Coach of the Year; Jade Williams top newcomer

COACH OF THE YEAR

Michael Oldham, McKinney North

Oldham guided North to a 29-5 record and the first state tournament in the school’s history. North defeated top-ranked San Antonio Brennan in the state semifinal before falling to tradition-rich Canyon in the championship. Oldham’s squad was the quintessential team, comprising a handful of role players and key bench players that emphasized quickness and defense.

Did you know? North has been on a steady rise in three seasons under Oldham. His team won 21 games in 2011-12 and 30 more last season, when he was named the District 13-4A coach of the year.
