Results sweet for Lovejoy backs in win over Prosper

LUCAS - For Lovejoy, it's about M&M: running back Blake Martin and quarterback Michael Means. On Friday night, the results were sweet.

Martin ran for four touchdowns and the Lovejoy defense did just enough to propel Lovejoy past Prosper, 42-21, on Friday night at Leopard Stadium.

Martin ran for 84 yards and combined with Means to provide the offensive jolt for Lovejoy (5-1, 1-0). Means racked up 232 total yards and ran for two first-half touchdowns.

The Lovejoy defense contended with the rushing attack of Prosper running back Juan Williams and quarterback Javelle Allen. The defensive front dropped Prosper rushers for a loss eight times and sacked Allen twice. The Lovejoy defense also forced two turnovers.

"They bent but they didn't break," Lovejoy coach Jim Bob Puckett said. "[Prosper]'s a talented football team. We need to work on third-down stops, but when they needed to make a play, they did."

After falling behind 21-0 in the first half, Prosper (2-4, 0-1) rallied to pull within six points early in the fourth quarter when Allen hit wide receiver Dillon Wolf on a 25-yard touchdown strike.

But Martin's third touchdown run of the game less than four minutes later put the game out of reach.

Williams provided the bulk of the offense for Prosper, rushing 36 times for 162 yards and two touchdowns.
