Homesick, John Crowder eventually returned to Baltimore’s ruthless east side. In the early-morning hours of July 5, 2010, after celebrating America’s 234th birthday at Baltimore’s famed Inner Harbor, he was shot and killed in the neighborhood where he had grown up. Once the No. 5 player in the nation, he infamously became the city’s 105th homicide victim that year.
