Football coach Brian Polk leaving Trophy Club Byron Nelson to take job at UIL

Football coach Brian Polk will leave Trophy Club Byron Nelson after the Christmas holidays to take a job as an assistant athletic director at the UIL, said Joel Johnson, executive director of athletics for the Northwest ISD.

Byron Nelson played its first season of varsity football in 2010, and Polk is the only head coach the program has ever had.  Polk was 35-29 at Byron Nelson and led the team to the playoffs in 2011, 2013 and 2015. This season, Byron Nelson was 6-5, tied for third in District 5-6A and lost to defending state champion Allen in the first round of the Class 6A Division I playoffs.

Polk will be working again with former Northwest ISD executive director of athletics Susan Elza. Elza was hired as the UIL's director of athletics in July.
