Highland Park wins EOC Playmakers Dallas 7 on 7 tournament
DESOTO - Highland Park defeated Mesquite Poteet 15-12 to capture the EOC Playmakers Dallas 7 on 7 football tournament Friday night at Eagles Stadium.
Quarterback Brooks Burgin tossed two touchdown passes in the championship game. Pass rusher Kevin Ken provided the clincher, sacking Poteet quarterback Kaleb Fletcher on the final play.
The Scots played nine games in the 21-team event, going 8-1. Poteet sent Highland Park to the consolation bracket with a 21-19 victory in the championship bracket semifinals. The Scots worked their way back with wins over Arlington Seguin, Cedar Hill and Tulsa (Okla.) Washington.
Highland Park defeated Poteet 24-8 in the first championship game of the double elimination tournament to force a second title game. Poteet (4-2) won its first four games on its way to the finals.
Washington (3-2) finished third and Cedar Hill (4-2) was fourth with both of its losses to Highland Park.
By winning, Highland Park clinches a berth in the 2015 Playmakers national finals.
