For a moment, five-star Allen quarterback Kyler Murray was 'sold' on Texas Tech

When highly recruited Allen quarterback Kyler Murray got down to making his final decision between Texas A&M and Oregon, one of the people he consulted was Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

While it might seem odd to call a coach of an in-state "rival" (at least in recruiting) to ask for advice, Murray did so because Kingsbury was instrumental in perfecting an "Air Raid"-style attack for A&M coach Kevin Sumlin. Kingsbury served as an offensive assistant with Sumlin at Houston and A&M from 2010-12.

Murray wouldn't divulge what Kingsbury told him, but he did share this interesting nugget:

"I'm not going to lie," Murray said. "There was a one point where I went down and I came back - and I was sold. Me and Kliff … that's my dude. We're real tight. Like I said, I called him and asked him for his option on this. It was just whether or not I could get the dudes to come down with me. I was really enticed, intrigued by Texas Tech."
