Former Cedar Hill star QB Damion Hobbs transferring from Oregon to Utah State

After Cedar Hill star quarterback Damion Hobbs helped guide the Longhorns to the 2012 5A Division II title game, he planned to sign with Arkansas State - and then Utah State. But then Oregon swooped in with a late offer and Hobbs made the switch.

Now Hobbs is switching back, although it's more complicated now.

Hobbs, who redshirted at Oregon as a freshman last year, is transferring to Utah State. The transfer has been rumored for a couple of weeks and Cedar Hill coach Joey McGuire confirmed it today.

Hobbs, who threw for 2,769 yards and 29 touchdowns while rushing for 808 yards and 12 more touchdowns as a senior, had an interesting recruitment before he signed with the 2013 class. At one point, Hobbs had offers from major programs such as Nebraska, Michigan State and Missouri. But he chose Arkansas State for the chance to play for Gus Malzahn. When Malzahn left for Auburn in early December, Hobbs stayed with his commitment to Arkansas State until after talking with new head coach Bryan Harsin.

There were few offers at that point, but Utah State offered and Hobbs accepted a few weeks before signing day. Then Oregon, one of the nation's top programs, offered.
