Mariah Denson pitches four hitter, Mansfield Timberview completes sweep of Richland
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS — Oklahoma State pledge Mariah Denson pitched a four-hitter and retired 15 of the final 18 batters as Timberview completed a two-game sweep of a 5A Region I semifinal series.
“We know we always have a chance with Mariah pitching for us,” Timberview coach Donya Mooney said. “I felt like we played well tonight, and we came through with big plays when we needed them.”
Timberview (29-6) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by Denson, but Richland tied the score in the bottom of the frame when Haley Freyman scored on a wild pitch.
Freyman also pitched well for Richland, striking out four while not allowing a walk in the complete-game loss.
The score stayed tied into the fourth, when Timberview grabbed a 2-1 lead on a run-scoring single by Chelsea Luddeke to plate Alex Taylor. Timberview added an insurance run in the seventh, with pinch-runner Hannah Kirkpatrick scoring all the way from first on an error after a hit by Ashley Timmons.
Richland went in order in the seventh, with Denson ending the game with a strikeout.
