Coppell soccer standout Chris Madden named Gatorade player of the year

Coppell senior forward/midfielder Chris Madden has been named the Gatorade Texas boys soccer player of the year.

Madden, who signed with Trinity College, tallied 10 goals and 13 assists while leading Coppell to its second straight 5A state championship game.

The senior was a two-time District 5-5A MVP, two-time all-state selection and twice named to SportsDay's all-area first team. He was SportsDay's player of the year in 2013 after scoring the game-tying and game-winning goals in last year's title game.

The last Dallas-area boys soccer player to win Gatorade player of the year was Plano's Tony Santibanez in 2012.
