Joey McCullough named Plano East head football coach, replaces Randy Jackson

Plano East has named alumnus Joey McCullough, brother of Plano Senior High head coach Jaydon McCullough, as its new head football coach.

David McNabb writes:

Plano East named alumnus Joey McCullough head football coach, according to Plano ISD athletic director Gerald Brence.

"Joey just brings a grit, an attitude," Brence said. "He grew up on the east side of town. He's played there, coached there and is recognized as one of the top coaches in the state. It's just time."

McCullough has been an assistant at Plano West for more than a decade and has been previously considered for multiple head coaching positions.

Plano East is searching for a replacement for Randy Jackson, who left after a season for Grapevine.

McCullough was strongly considered when Jackson was hired from Mesquite Poteet. McCullough's older brother Jaydon McCullough has been head coach at Plano since 2008.
