Where are they now: Former Plano East soccer star Lee Nguyen
It's the eve of the UIL state soccer tournament, so for the latest "Where Are they Now?" post, a soccer player seemed appropriate. Today's update:
Former Plano East midfielder Lee Nguyen (Class of 2005)
Nguyen has played midfield for the New England Revolution of the MLS since 2012. Last year Appeared in 33 league matches and scored four goals and had seven assists. In 2012, he was named the Revolution's MVP by its fans.
Before the MLS, Nguyen played several years in Vietnam, where he was the first American to play in the V-League, the nation's top division. Before that, he played in the Netherlands and Denmark after spending one season at soccer powerhouse Indiana. He was named the National Freshman of the Year.
Nguyen graduated from Plano East in 2005. He was the Gatorade National Player of the Year in '05 and a Parade All-American, although he missed a lot of time with his high school team as he played for the U.S. under-18 national team. He helped East get to the 5A state semifinals in 2004.
