Smith: Dallas-area girls basketball team could be favorite to take Class 4A title next season
Catch SportsDay On Air twice per week on Fox Sports Southwest, when Dallas Morning News experts discuss hot sports topics from the Cowboys, Mavericks, Stars, Rangers, high schools and colleges (check our TV listings for air times). Here are some highlights from Monday's episode featuring Corbett Smith and Kevin Sherrington.
On the McKinney North girls loss to Canyon in the girls high school Class 4A girls high school basketball state championship:
Smith: “Well Canyon is a traditional power and they really showed it in the second half. They played really strong. McKinney North is really young, and they’ve got a lot of freshmen, sophomores, junior playing on that team. They’ll be back and I expect them to be perhaps the 4A favorite for next year.”
Sherrington: “What was the big surprise in the girls tournament?”
Smith: “Well apart from Duncanville, you have to say Brock. Brock ended up losing to Wall in state final in 2A. They were going for their record-tying sixth straight UIL championship. Both the girls team and the boys team are pretty outstanding. The boys team, they lost to Ponder, who has now advanced to state. They lost to them in the regional final. A couple of shockers there for the people who are odds-on favorites for Duncanville and Brock.”
