Video: The controversial final seconds of regional final between Celina, Argyle

District 10-3A rivals Argyle and Celina met for a third time this season Saturday, this time with a state berth at stake.

Argyle edged out a 51-50 win in double overtime, but the final five seconds of the game were fraught with controversy.

Celina ran up the court, trailing by one, and Kynese Davis threw up a 3-point attempt. She appeared to be fouled on the play, and the ref blew his whistle and raised his hand to indicate as much. It's clear the clock had not run out, because you'll notice the red lights behind the backboard don't flash until well after the shot.

The refs conferred at center court and then ran off, apparently deciding the game was over. No explanation was given to coaches or the media.

Had the refs awarded the foul or not called anything at all, this series of events might just be considered a bad call/no-call. But to blow the whistle and call a foul, then run off the court is a puzzling decision.
