Breaking down the girls basketball state semifinals match-ups for your home team

Duncanville’s quest for a third consecutive state championship continues with a Class 5A semifinal against San Antonio Wagner on Friday at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin.

No. 1 Duncanville (34-0), which is riding a 104-game winning streak, this season has beaten both teams in Friday’s other 5A semifinal between No. 2 Manvel (36-2) and No. 11 Plano West (27-5) but has not faced unranked Wagner (25-10). Manvel led Duncanville by 14 at halftime in Pasadena, but the Pantherettes rallied for a 56-50 win. Duncanville soundly defeated Plano West, 83-36, at the Sandra Meadows Classic.

The semifinal winners will meet in the state championship at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

No. 3 McKinney North (28-4) will be making its first state tournament appearance in a Class 4A semifinal against No. 1 San Antonio Brennan on Thursday. Brennan’s lone loss this season came against Manvel.

In Class 3A, Argyle (35-1) will face Geronimo Navarro (33-7) in a Thursday semifinal. Argyle slipped past district rival Celina in double overtime of the Region II final in Commerce.

Brock (34-2) seeks its sixth consecutive state championship after upsetting No. 1 Sunnyvale in the Class 2A Region II final. Brock will face Franklin (30-5) in a semifinal Friday.
