Ennis has partial appeal granted, will move to Dallas-area district for all sports but football

This just in from Ennis head football coach and athletic director Jack Alvarez:

At a District Assignment Appeals Committee meeting held Thursday morning in Austin, the University Interscholastic League has granted a partial appeal for Ennis to move to a Dallas/Fort Worth-area district in all sports except football.

In football, Ennis will stay in District 16-4A, an eight-team district with Corsicana, Tyler John Tyler and deep East Texas teams such as Lufkin and Nacogdoches.

In all other sports, Ennis will now be the ninth member in 14-5A, which is comprised of four Mansfield ISD 5A schools, Waxahachie, Red Oak, Lancaster and Arlington Seguin.

The ruling will certainly cut down on travel for the school district, but it will create a crowded schedule in volleyball, basketball, soccer, baseball and softball. The addition will be the most noticeable in softball; Ennis has been one of the area's best 4A teams in recent years, taking eventual finalist Lovejoy to three games in the third round last season.
