Girls basketball player of the week (2/3): Rockwall's Sara Williamson
What she did: With her team trailing by two late in the fourth quarter on Friday against Mesquite, Williamson went coast-to-coast, got fouled and hit two free throws to tie the score with 22 seconds left. Then, after a steal, Williamson hit layup with five seconds remaining to give Rockwall a 52-50 win and keep it in tied for first in District 12-5A. Williamson finished with 26 points.
Who is she? A 5-8 junior guard
The stats: Williamson is averaging 14.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game this season.
She said it: “I think getting to the basket [worked Friday]. Penetration-wise, I got fouls and put in some free throws.”
Coach said it: “We kind of knew that we had to be aggressive [on the final play] and if she missed it maybe we get a foul, but we wanted to get going to the basket. Sarah is great. She is great with her right arm but she’s ambidextrous so she penetrated hard and cut and skipped in a left-handed layup. She did a great job.” — Kasie Brewer
Did you know? Williamson said she’s getting recruited by Abilene Christian, Stephen F. Austin, University of Denver and Rice, among others. She said she’s thinking about staying in Texas.
