Friday basketball replay: Newman Smith girls claim District 10-4A lead

Newman Smith wins in double overtime

Alexis Nezianya scored six of her 19 points in the second overtime as the Carrollton Newman Smith girls claimed sole possession of first place in District 10-4A with a 73-68 victory over West Mesquite.

Dasia Johnson scored a team-high 24 points for Newman Smith (12-5, 5-0), including seven in the two overtime periods. Newman Smith’s Daija Styles made a 3-pointer with less than a minute left in the first overtime to tie the score.

Charlotte Collyer scored 19 points and UT-Arlington signee Artavia Ford added 18 to lead the Colleyville Heritage girls (14-10, 3-2 in 6-5A) to a 61-47 win over Irving MacArthur, the state’s 13th-ranked 5A team.

Carroll wins battle for first in 4-5A

Colorado pledge Kennedy Leonard and Jacksonville State signee Gretchen Morrison each scored 10 to lead the Southlake Carroll girls to a 45-34 win over Keller in a battle for first in 4-5A. Carroll, ranked eighth in the state in 5A, is 5-0 in district.

New Orleans signee Kayla Mundy scored 16 points as the Frisco Liberty girls (15-3, 5-0), ranked 13th in the state in 4A, increased their lead in District 9-4A to two games with a 46-24 win over Frisco Heritage. Heritage fell to 3-2 in district. … The Highland Park boys, No. 10 in the state in 4A, trailed by five entering the fourth quarter before beating Carrollton Creekview, 57-51. Evan Beucler led Highland Park with 22 points.

BOYS

Kealon Clayborne, Cedar Hill, guard: Scored 20 points to lead Cedar Hill (10-8, 1-2 District 7-5A) to a 52-41 win over South Grand Prairie, the state's 12th-ranked 5A team. SGP won the prestigious Whataburger tournament Saturday.

Devin Roby-Davis, Arlington Seguin, guard: Scored 20 points in a 74-69 win over Lancaster, the state's seventh-ranked 4A team that won the Dallas ISD/Coca-Cola tournament.

Jordan Box, Frisco Heritage, guard: Scored 29 points as the state's 12th-ranked 4A team beat Frisco Liberty, 63-59. Heritage trailed by one entering the fourth quarter.

Brandon Hall, Arlington Bowie, guard: Scored 26 points as Bowie improved to 3-0 in District 3-5A with a 76-62 win over North Crowley, the state's 14th-ranked 5A team.

Bola Alade, John Paul II, guard: Scored 31 points as the state's third-ranked large private school beat Fort Worth Nolan, 76-64.

Thomas Williams, Trophy Club Byron Nelson, guard: Scored 19 to lead Byron Nelson (14-5, 3-0 in 5-4A) to a 62-47 win vs. Denton Guyer, the state's No. 11 4A team.

Kishion Mitchell, Irving, forward: Made two free throws with 0.9 seconds left for a 56-55 win vs. Grapevine. He finished with 14 points.

Mikaehla Connor, McKinney North, point guard: Scored a school-record 35 points as McKinney North (14-4, 5-0 District 13-4A), the state's third-ranked 4A team, beat Greenville, 93-29. She hit five 3-pointers and had six assists.

Jaileen Thomas, Richardson Berkner, guard: Scored 33 points in a 66-31 victory against Sunset.

Zoie Miller, Frisco Lone Star, point guard: Scored 29 points in a 51-36 win over Aubrey.

Carissa Moody, Carrollton Creekview, forward: Had 28 points, 12 rebounds, five steals and five assists in a 65-45 win vs. Highland Park.

Shani Rainey, Lovejoy, guard: The Rice signee scored 26 points to help Lovejoy beat Sherman, 49-48.

Alisha Washington, Lincoln, guard: The New Mexico State signee had 28 points and seven assists in a 56-43 win against Hillcrest.
