Kyler Murray, Cole Hedlund earn first-team all-USA honors
State championships were only the beginning for Allen quarterback Kyler Murray and Argyle kicker Cole Hedlund.
Both were named to USA Today's all-USA first team on Tuesday, and Murray was the only junior in the nation on the first or second teams.
Murray threw for 3,669 yards, ran for 1,274 more and had 65 total touchdowns. He led Allen to its second consecutive Class 5A Division I championship Saturday.
Hedlund, an Arkansas pledge, made 24 field goals this season, one shy of his own national record of 25 that he set last year. Hedlund also set state and national records for career field goals on the way to Argyle's first state championship.
Fort Worth All Saints offensive lineman Demetrius Knox and Coppell defensive end Solomon Thomas were named to the second team.
