Dallas-Fort Worth area schools sweep UIL 5A and 4A football titles for first time since 2005
The Dallas-Fort Worth area is still the only region of the state to sweep the top four UIL football crowns. And now local teams have done it twice.
Cedar Hill capped a proud weekend for local schools with a 34-24 win over Katy in the Class 5A Division II title game late Saturday at AT&T Stadium. Allen (5A Division I) and Aledo (4A Division II) won titles earlier Saturday, and Denton Guyer won the 4A Division I title Friday night.
The four teams matched the local sweep of 2005, when Euless Trinity, Southlake Carroll, Highland Park and Hebron won championships. Since then, local teams hadn't won more than two of the top four UIL crowns in one season.
Local teams finished with eight 11-man state championships overall this season. Five teams won UIL titles, including Argyle in 3A Division II. Three private schools also won championships: Fort Worth Nolan and First Baptist in TAPPS and Fort Worth All Saints in SPC, which includes schools from Oklahoma.
