Crowd of 54,347 makes Allen-Pearland the most attended high school game in Texas history

The Class 5A Division I championship between Allen and Pearland broke the state championship attendance record with 54,347 fans on hand Saturday at AT&T Stadium.

The previous attendance record was 49,953, set at the 1977 4A state title game between Plano and Port Neches-Groves.

Fans started filing into the upper deck at AT&T Stadium during the second quarter, the first time the upper deck has been opened for a high school football game.

There were 33,745 fans on hand for the 4A Division II championship between Aledo and Brenham. The crowd swelled to fill the lower two sections of the stadium at the start of the 5A Division I championship between Allen and Pearland.
