Cedar Hill's win over Katy in 5A Division II title game included huge scoring swings
Cedar Hill's 34-24 victory over Katy featured big scoring swings by each team.
Cedar Hill led 10-0 before Katy scored three touchdowns in the span of 2:38 late in the second quarter. Katy started the streak with a 66-yard touchdown run by Rodney Anderson with 3:22 left, and then Cedar Hill lost fumbles on its next two possessions.
The second fumble was the most costly, as Katy's JoVanni Stewart scooped it up and raced 77 yards for a touchdown to give Katy a 21-10 halftime lead.
"We went into halftime and we said we've been here before," Cedar Hill coach Joey McGuire said. "We don't make anything easy. That's just not our M.O. as a team. We make everything hard."
Katy then made it hard on itself in the fourth quarter by losing two fumbles and mishandling a snap on a punt. Cedar Hill made Katy pay by scoring the final 24 points to avenge last year's 35-24 loss in the title game.
