Rockwall-Heath volleyball standout Regina Tillis signs with LSU
Regina Tillis has been one of the best outside hitters in the state for the past four years.
The 5-9 Rockwall-Heath standout knows, though, that the college game will bring a different kind of challenge. She signed a national letter of intent with LSU on Wednesday.
"They said I'm one of the shortest outsides in the college game," Tillis said, "so I'm going to have to work even harder. I'll have to work harder and be better on defense."
Tillis committed to LSU as a sophomore. She said her father's family lives outside Baton Rouge, and she wanted to maintain a connection to relatives.
Tillis led Heath in kills during each of her four seasons on the varsity team, and Heath made the playoffs all four years.
"She has been an impact player for us," Heath coach Maggie Younger said. "She is a leader by action and she is a true team player and humble."
The Heath volleyball team also signed Claire Carpenter to Kansas and Savanna Stutts to LeTourneau.
Heath lost to Plano in the 5A Region II quarterfinals Tuesday, so Tillis said her signing ceremony took some of the sting out of the loss.
But not all of it.
"We were still thinking about it," Tillis said, "but today was nice."
