Lovejoy coach Matt Green 'hopeful' QB Dakota Michaels will be healthy for playoff opener

Entering its regular-season finale against Wylie East on Friday night, I asked Lovejoy coach Matt Green who his starting quarterback would be.

"You'll find out at 7:30," Green said.

The answer was Dakota Michaels: the CB-turned-QB since starter Bowman Sells has been in and out since suffering a collarbone injury. Lovejoy won a 47-44 thriller to earn a playoff bid, but not without more quarterback issues.

With 4:38 left in regulation, Michaels went down with a left knee injury and did not return. The Leopards turned to wide receiver Chochy Luce as its third-string QB - a sign that Sells wasn't ready for action.

So who starts at QB Saturday when Lovejoy takes on Hallsville in its bi-district playoff opener? Green said he's 'hopeful' Micheals will be healthy enough to return after a round of doctor evaluations.

"The good news is that we don't play until Saturday," Green said. "But he's a tough kid, a competitor."
