McShan Elementary fifth-grade basketball star receives letter from George Mason University

While the headline may be a little misleading, it is true, Jaden Jones, a fifth-grader at Lee McShan Junior Elementary in East Dallas, landed a letter from an assistant coach at George Mason University.

According to a report from FOX 4 News in Dallas, it wasn't a recruitment letter, but more of some words of encouragement from the coach encouraging Jaden, 10, to keep his grades up and work hard.

The coach is an old friend of Jaden's father Jerel Jones, according to FOX 4.

The first news of Jaden's letter from GMU came in a report by Yahoo Sports claiming it was a recruiting letter, which Jerel dismissed in the FOX 4 report.

No lie though, Jaden is built for the game, standing at 5-5 as a 10-year-old, and attending a Nike Pre-Draft Camp.

Eight years from now, we might be able to give a firmer grasp of Jaden's plans when he walks across the stage in 2021.
