Ursuline wins its second straight TAPPS 5A girls cross country championship
Led by Jordan Elissa’s fourth-place finish, Ursuline won its second straight 5A girls team championship at the TAPPS cross country state meet Saturday in Elm Mott, Texas.
Ursuline placed five runners in the top 14, with Elissa followed by Lauren Younger (10th), Niki Lehtola (11th), Peyton Clemens (13th) and Kate Patrick (14th). Ursuline had 47 points and edged runner-up San Antonio Antonian by four points.
Bishop Dunne’s Rakel Barrientos won the 5A girls individual championship, running 3,200 meters in 11:39.1. A year after winning state, Alexandria Arndorfer from Carrollton Prince of Peace placed second in the 4A girls division. It was the third straight year she finished in the top two.
Dallas-area runners swept the 2A individual titles as Lakehill’s Emily Allton (12:00.8) won the girls race and Luke Mackinnon from The Covenant School claimed the five-kilometer boys race in 17:34.5. It was the third consecutive state title for Allton.
Flower Mound Coram Deo’s Laina Ewoldt won the 3A girls race in 11:35.9. Zach Polley won the 3A boys race in 16:56.8, and teammate Sam Vincent placed second to lead Ovilla Christian to the team title.
