How tough is it for smaller 5A and 4A schools to win? Here are some numbers
I'm putting together a column on the UIL "Snapshot Day," which is Friday. That's the day when schools submit their day's enrollments for the upcoming realignment.
I put together some numbers that show how difficult it can be for smaller schools in 4A and 5A to have success. Here it is:
Bigger and better
A comparison of the 10 largest and smallest Dallas-area schools in Classes 5A and 4A, as based on their enrollment figures for the 2012-14 UIL realignment.

10 largest Plano East (6,015), Allen (5,388), Plano (5,314), Plano West (4,944), Skyline (4,326), Duncanville (4,008), Lewisville (3,687), Arlington Martin (3,333), South Grand Prairie (3,324), Coppell (3,253).Overall record this season: 47-22Rec. vs. 5A schools with enrollment less than 2,500: 18-3 (Those three losses came to two teams: Cedar Hill beat Duncanville and S. Grand Prairie and Mesquite Horn beat Duncanville. I didn't include 4A opponents for this, but Lewisville lost to 4A powerhouse Ennis.)
10 smallest South Garland (2,028)*, North Garland (2,105), McKinney (2,121), Denton Ryan (2,125), Richardson Pearce (2,130), Carr. R.L. Turner (2,132), Jesuit (2,142), Rockwall-Heath (2,144), Cedar Hill (2,145), Grapevine (2,170). *Had 4A enrollment, but requested elevation to 5AOverall record this season: 28-42Rec vs. 5A schools with enrollment of more than 2,800: 4-14
