Carrollton Prince of Peace cancels remainder of its football season

Carrollton Prince of Peace decided Tuesday to cancel the rest of its football season because it is down to 12 players who are able to play, athletic director Earl Garland said.

Garland said Prince of Peace started the season with 20 players but that primarily injuries and a few academic eligibility issues reduced the team's roster. Garland said last season Prince of Peace had 27 or 28 players when it was 5-5.

"I've never had to do this before," Garland said. "Everyone in the district has been very gracious and understanding. … We're going to turn this around and it will be positive."

Prince of Peace was 4-3 overall and 1-3 in TAPPS 2-II. Garland said Prince of Peace had 16 players for last week's game against TC-Cedar Hill, a game Prince of Peace lost 34-20 after trailing by just one at halftime.

Prince of Peace was scheduled to play  Tyler Grace Community on Friday and then Parish Episcopal and Bullard Brook Hill the following two weeks. TAPPS assistant director Brent Patton said those three games will go down as forfeit wins for the scheduled opponents in the district standings.
