Battle of undefeated Carter and South Oak Cliff is tough to predict
"It's just another game to me," Carter running back Corey Avery said about tonight's game against South Oak Cliff.
That's no disrespect to South Oak Cliff, which like Carter is 6-0 on the season. You hear the "just another game" line more and more because players are trained to keep the preparation the same for each week.
But tonight's matchup of Carter and South Oak Cliff is pretty huge. Skyline is the powerhouse football program of the Dallas ISD, but Carter and SOC would like to carry the DISD banner in 4A. (Here's a story I did on SOC earlier this year. Here's my story on Carter.)
Carter has suffered from declining enrollment in recent years, and the former 5A program is now close to 3A numbers. But Carter still has enough talent, led by Avery, to make tonight's game a tough call.
The weather should be absolutely perfect when the District 11-4A matchup kicks off at 7 p.m. at Kincaide Stadium. Carter hasn't beaten South Oak Cliff since 2009.
The last five matchups:
2012: SOC 21, Carter 14 2011: SOC 44, Carter 0 2010: SOC 33, Carter 20 2009: Carter 35, SOC 34 2008: Carter 44, SOC 21
