With offense clicking, defensive-minded Coppell is looking scarier each week
Coppell takes on Garland on Thursday night in its final tuneup for what will be the last big nondistrict tussle of the year: Coppell vs. Allen on Sept. 27.
We all know about Allen. Defending 5A Division I champ. Has already beaten Southlake Carroll and Cedar Hill this season. The Eagles are ranked No. 1 in the state.
But what about Coppell?
We knew the Cowboys would be strong this season. Another top-notch defense was going to ensure that, and Coppell would be tough up front on defense and offense. Now Coppell seems to become a scarier opponent each week because its offense is finding its groove.
Coppell's last two games:
49-24 victory over McKinney Boyd 429 total yards of offense … QB Skyler Bonneau was 8-of-8 for 189 yards and 2 TDs
68-20 victory over Rockwall 491 total yards of offense … Charles West had 11 carries for 306 yards and 4 TDs
Coppell has a nice running back combo in West and Gavin McDaniel. West has rushed 36 times for 512 yards and six touchdowns, and McDaniel has rushed 37 times for 249 yards and six scores.
