After loss to DeSoto, Arlington Martin makes big turnaround in win over Skyline
After getting roughed up by DeSoto in the first week of the season, Arlington Martin coach Bob Wager had reasons to be positive:
"Your first game to second game should be where your team makes the biggest leap," he said. "You've got a full game on video, and that's the best teaching tool."
Martin certainly learned something. In the 46-7 loss to DeSoto, Martin gave up 310 rushing yards. A week later, Martin held Skyline to a net loss of 22 yards on 24 rushes. That helped Martin pull off a 27-24 victory.
Martin also got a nice performance from QB Eric Walker in the win over Skyline. Walker, who is just a sophomore, completed 11 of 15 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown. In the opener against DeSoto, Walker was 13 of 24 for 95 yards and 1 TD with 2 interceptions.
Of course, Martin's quick turnaround could be more evidence of DeSoto's strength. The Eagles, who play Euless Trinity this week, have looked fantastic in their first two games.
Skyline, which opened the season with an overtime win against The Woodlands, takes on Arlington Bowie (2-0) this week. Martin plays South Grand Prairie, which is 2-0.
