Already tough District 7-5A got tougher Thursday night
District 7-5A, already expected to be one of the state's toughest districts, got tougher Thursday night. Or more specifically, another tough team was revealed Thursday night as Mansfield Timberview beat Hebron, 21-17.
A week earlier, Hebron traveled to Abilene and won easily. Even if Abilene is a little down this year, that's not easy to do. Hebron, ranked No. 9 in the 5A area rankings, is a solid team.
The performance by Timberview (2-0) showed that it will be in the playoff mix in 7-5A. But that 7-5A mix is going to be wild.
DeSoto and Cedar Hill, both in the top of the 5A area rankings, were penciled in as playoff teams before the season began. Duncanville beat Colleyville Heritage, 70-42, in its opener. Midlothian clobbered Waxahachie, 49-14, and South Grand Prairie won 38-31 over Arlington Lamar, which is expected to be a playoff team in 3-5A.
Mansfield (0-2) and Grand Prairie (0-2) have had rough starts, but the top six in 7-5A will battle for four playoff spots. Timberview, which finished 3-7 last year, was last in the playoffs in 2011, when it went all the way to the 5A Division II semifinals.
