Cedar Hill team wins Speed to Feed CANstruction contest, benefiting the North Texas Food Bank

Five-member teams from five Dallas-area high schools competed Saturday in the Speed to Feed CANstruction, a contest sponsored by Texas Trust Credit Union that benefits the North Texas Food Bank.

The teams - from DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, Mansfield and South Grand Prairie - consisted mostly of coaches and football players. Each team's mission was to be the first to build a seven-foot high structure out of non-perishable foods (canned goods, boxed foods, bagged beans and rice) and keep it from falling over for at least 30 seconds.

The Cedar Hill Longhorns took first place, edging Duncanville by just seconds. For their efforts and construction abilities, the Longhorns received  $250 for their team, a CANstruction tropy and, of course, bragging rights.

Speed to Feed was the final event in Texas Trust's Together We Feed More campaign. Besides the food that was collected, Texas Trust donated $30,000 the for North Texas Food Bank, which will enable the food bank to provide nearly 100,000 meals.
