Here’s my ballot from this week’s Associated Press high school football poll.
I really toyed with the idea of putting either Allen or DeSoto at No. 1 in the Class 5A poll, but I couldn’t do either given Katy’s overwhelming 63-10 win over The Woodlands. I saw The Woodlands in Week Zero give Skyline a good challenge; at worst, The Woodlands is a second-round playoff team. And Katy just delivered them their worst loss in school history.
Allen, though, continues to roll, and DeSoto looked outstanding against Euless Trinity on Saturday night. I can foresee moving either up if Katy slips.
Class 4A was pretty static this week, apart from Corpus Christi Calallen’s upset loss to Flour Bluff. Frisco Centennial and Lancaster both continued on their impressive starts – Lancaster with a great win at Sprague against Kimball – while Denton Guyer stayed in my Top 10 win its first win of the season.
In 3A, Argyle made it back to the top of our SportsDayHS poll and
into my Top 10 statewide. Todd Rodgers has rallied his team to two nice
wins (FW Nolan and Paris) after losing the season opener to Abilene
Wylie — which is 3-0 with impressive wins over Argyle, Bridgeport and
