Baseball playoff roundup: Texarkana Pleasant Grove pitcher fans 10 in 5-2 win

PARIS, Texas — Timothy Buchanan struck out 10 batters and scattered four hits as Texarkana Pleasant Grove defeated Farmersville, 5-2, in Game 1 of the Class 3A Region II final series at Paris North Lamar.

Game 2 will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Paris North Lamar.

Luke McGuire had three of the 11 hits for Pleasant Grove (32-5).

Byron Brooks was 2-for-3 with a double and a run for Farmersville (30-8).

Farmersville catcher Collin Rodgers threw out three runners at second over the final three innings. He also singled in Brooks with two outs in the sixth.

Brock 3, Sunnyvale 2: Right-hander Shay Phillips struck out 10 and capped a three-run third-inning outburst with a two-run double as Brock won a one-game Class 2A Region II final.

Walker Dailey’s two-out triple and an RBI infield single by Garrett Busby ignited the winning rally. J.D. Stinnett followed with a single and scored along with Busby on Phillips’ double.

Will Moss accounted for both Sunnyvale runs, lining an inside-the-park home run in the third and scoring Joey Rosato with an RBI single in the fifth.
