Baseball, softball roundup: Weather causes delay in playoff action; several games postponed

MCKINNEY — Plano East used timely hitting and solid defense to overcome a nearly two-hour rain delay for a 7-2 victory over Colleyville Heritage in Game 1 of a Class 5A Region I area round best-of-3 series.

The brother tandem of left fielder Jacob Boucher and pitcher Ryan Boucher led an 11-hit barrage and held Heritage to four hits.

In a series that was moved to McKinney Boyd from Coppell because of weather concerns, the teams waited out the rain sitting in buses before East (20-12-1) was able to take a 3-0 lead in the second.

Jacob Boucher drove in East’s first run with a ground single to right and later scored to make it 3-0. He finished with three RBIs.
