Moriah Jefferson leads Dallas-area players in All-American game
MacArthur's Alexis Jones scores nine points in West's 79-78 loss in McDonald's all-star game
Because she played for the Texas Home Educators’ Sports Association (THESA), area girls basketball fans had to go out of their way to see Moriah Jefferson play. On Wednesday, in the McDonald’s All-American game at Chicago's United Center, she was there for everyone to watch.
Though her West team lost 79-78, to the East, Jefferson made a basket in the final minute that brought the West to within two points. She started the game and finished with 10 points.
The East's Bashaara Graves made a game-winning free throw with less than a second left. Baylor recruit Alexis Prince had 15 points and nine rebounds for the East to earn the MVP award.
Coming into the game after the first TV timeout, Irving MacArthur’s Alexis Jones quickly scored a layup for the West. Later, she made a 3-pointer. She finished with nine points.
DeSoto’s Jordan Jones scored three points.
Player of the year Breanna Stewart, headed to Connecticut, scored seven of her nine points for the East in the final four minutes of the game at the United Center. Nirra Fields led the West with 20 points.
The boys game included area players in Isaiah Austin and Marcus Smart.
As is often the case with all- star basketball games, the McDonald’s All-American game featured several dunks. Arlington Grace Prep’s Austin contributed some of them in the West’s 106-102 win.
Smart finished the game without a field goal but made a free throw in the first half.
