Tuesday hoops replay: Keller Central holds off Coppell to win 7-5A title

J.R. Rogers scored 12 points and Weber State signee Joel Bolomboy added 10 as the Keller Central boys beat Coppell, 43-41, on Tuesday in a matchup of the top two teams in District 7-5A.

Keller Central (25-7, 11-1) trailed by one at halftime but rallied to clinch the district title. Trailing by two, Coppell (22-8, 8-4) held the ball in the final 30 seconds before missing a shot that could have tied it. Warren Oishi led Coppell with 15 points.

Tuesday was the final day of the regular season for many girls teams. The top four teams in each UIL 5A and 4A district made the playoffs. Here’s who got in.

District 4-5A: North Crowley won the district at 13-1, followed by Arlington Lamar, Arlington Bowie and Arlington Martin.

5-5A: Duncanville won the district with a 14-0 record, followed by Cedar Hill, Mansfield Timberview and Mansfield.

6-5A: Defending 5A state champion Irving MacArthur won the district with a 16-0 record. Colleyville Heritage, Hurst L.D. Bell and Richland also earned playoff berths.

7-5A: Southlake Carroll and Keller finished tied for first at 13-1. Denton Guyer finished third, and Saginaw earned the district's fourth playoff berth with a 41-33 win over Justin Northwest.

8-5A: Plano West won the district at 14-0, followed by Flower Mound Marcus, Plano East and Plano.

9-5A: Skyline won the district at 12-0, extending its district winning streak to 121 games. Richardson and Richardson Berkner also made the playoffs. Sunset and Lake Highlands tied for fourth and will play a tiebreaker for the last playoff spot.

10-5A: Sachse won the district at 13-1, followed by Garland and Garland Naaman Forest. Garland Lakeview and McKinney Boyd tied for fourth and will play a tiebreaker Friday for a playoff spot.

11-5A: DeSoto won the district at 10-0, followed by Mesquite Horn, Mesquite and Tyler Lee.

4-4A: Denton Ryan won the district at 11-1, followed by Wichita Falls Rider and The Colony. Denton and Little Elm tied for fourth and will play a tiebreaker at 6 p.m. Friday at The Colony for the final spot.

5-4A: Aledo won the district with a 14-0 record. Keller Timber Creek, Springtown and Trophy Club Byron Nelson also got in.

7-4A: Mansfield Summit won the district with a 14-0 record, followed by Granbury, Arlington Seguin and Crowley.

9-4A: Frisco Wakeland won the district with a 13-1 record, followed by Frisco Liberty, Frisco Heritage and Frisco Centennial.

10-4A: Rockwall won the district title with a 12-2 record. Highland Park, Wylie and McKinney North also got in.

11-4A: Carter and Kimball finished tied for first at 13-1.

12-4A: Lincoln won the district with a 12-0 record. Bryan Adams, Woodrow Wilson and Conrad also made the playoffs.

15-4A: West Mesquite won the district at 16-0. Waxahachie, Ennis and Lancaster also got in.

BOYS

Julius Randle, Prestonwood, forward: The junior was 17-of-19 from the field, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range, and scored 46 points as the state's top-ranked large private school beat Bishop Lynch, 108-55.

Keyunta Watkins, Trophy Club Byron Nelson, point guard: Scored 43 points – 21 in the third quarter – and had eight rebounds in an 80-62 win vs. Fort Worth Brewer.

David Allen, Highland Park, guard: Made six 3-pointers and scored 31 points as Highland Park (25-2, 12-0), the state's 12th-ranked 4A team, clinched the District 10-4A title with a 70-48 victory over second-place McKinney.

Zach LeDay, The Colony, forward: LeDay, who has committed to South Florida, scored 29 points as the state's 10th-ranked 4A team rallied from a six-point halftime deficit for a 64-54 overtime win over Denton.

Jordan Box, Frisco Heritage, guard: Was 8-of-8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and finished with 27 points in a 55-51 win over Frisco Centennial that knocked Centennial out of a tie for first in 9-4A.

Brian Hampton, Duncanville, guard: Hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 55 seconds left in a 49-48 win over Mansfield Timberview.

GIRLS

Adrienne Drake, Kimball, post: Had 30 points and 11 rebounds as Kimball beat Adamson, 68-12, and finished tied with Carter for first place in District 11-4A.

Bria Platenburg, Frisco Wakeland, forward: Scored 20 points as Wakeland (23-10, 13-1) captured the outright District 9-4A title with a 61-35 victory against Carrollton R.L. Turner.

Kami Mickens, Southlake Carroll, guard: The daughter of former NFL player Ray Mickens scored 18 points as Carroll (29-3, 13-1), the state's seventh-ranked 5A team, beat Denton Guyer, 57-42, and finished tied with Keller for first place in District 7-5A.

Teana Ogden, Denton Ryan, guard: Scored 18 points as Ryan (22-9, 11-1) beat Little Elm, 55-49, to win the outright District 4-4A title.

Kaitlyn Read, Highland Park, guard: Scored 21 points as Highland Park earned a playoff spot with a 48-45 win vs. McKinney.

Devri Owens, Plano West, guard: Scored 23 points as Plano West (32-2 overall), the state's sixth-ranked 5A team, finished 14-0 in District 8-5A by beating Plano, 83-48.

STAT SHEET

21: Consecutive wins for the Duncanville girls (33-1, 14-0 District 5-5A). The state's third-ranked 5A team beat No. 18 Mansfield Timberview, 63-41, on Tuesday.

0: Points allowed in the second half by the Irving MacArthur girls in a 77-12 win vs. Irving Nimitz. Duke signee Alexis Jones scored 22 for the state's top 5A team.

36: Points scored by Otis Smith for the Crandall boys in a 60-52 win over Ferris. Smith also had 10 rebounds.
