Thursday's roundup: Centennial earns playoff spot with win over Frisco
Frisco Liberty shuts down Carrollton R.L. Turner; SOC handles Pinkston
FRISCO — Lamar Jordan scored on a 42-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter to lead Frisco Centennial to a 29-22 win over Frisco, and clinching a playoff berth.
After Jordan’s score and the two-point conversion. the Centennial defense held Frisco to a three-and-out. Centennial (8-0, 5-0) needed only one first down to run out the clock .
Jordan finished the game completing 17 of 26 passes for 152 yards and ran 22 times for 131 yards.
Carlos Harris returned at running back for Frisco (6-2, 4-1) and helped Frisco open up a 9-0 lead with a 13-yard touchdown run.
Frisco Liberty 42, Carrollton R.L. Turner 0
CARROLLTON — Sophomore quarterback Connor Navalta passed for 141 yards and five touchdowns and the Frisco Liberty defense pitched a shutout in a rout of Carrollton R.L. Turner.
Navalta, in just his second start for an injured Zach Smith, had two scoring passes to Jeremy Embry and one apiece to Izaiah Robinson, Seth Guthrie, and Trey Johnson for Liberty (6-2, 3-2 in 9-4A).
South Oak Cliff 42, Pinkston 6
Senior running back Paul Franklin scored three, first-half touchdowns to lead South Oak Cliff over winless Pinkston.
Ranked No. 8 in The News’ 4A poll, SOC (8-0, 4-0 in 11-4A) scored on all but one of its first seven possessions. Franklin had touchdown runs of 20, 10 and 4-yards.
Sophomore quarterback Kenneth Arthur was 10-of-11 passing.
McKinney Boyd 34, Sachse 20
MCKINNEY — Junior running back Bryan Driskell rushed for 219 yards and all five of McKinney Boyd’s touchdowns to lead Boyd (6-2, 4-1) to a hard-fought District 10-5A win over Sachse (6-2, 3-2).
Garland 51, Garland Lakeview Centennial 0
GARLAND — Garland dominated Lakeview Centennial in all phases of the game for the win.
Garland’s defense was able to hold Centennial to six first downs and 129 total yards.
It was the third shutout in district play for Garland (6-2, 5-0 in 10-5A)
Fort Worth Southwest 53, Fort Worth North Side 9
FORT WORTH — Fort Worth Southwest dominated Fort Worth North Side (1-7, 1-6) in a District 6-4A game.
The Raiders (7-1, 7-0), one week removed from a record-setting performance from wide receiver Robbie Rhodes, scored four touchdowns on their first seven plays to take a 26-0 lead after the first period.
Hurst L.D. Bell 59, Irving 0
IRVING — Denelra Dorsett took the opening kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown and caught two other touchdown passes as Hurst LD Bell routed Irving in District 6-5A action.
Bell (6-3, 5-2) took advantage of four Irving fumbles — three of those in the first half — turning each into scores.
Wilmer-Hutchins 42, Fort Worth Poly 0
Damien Lawry ran for 87 yards and three touchdowns and completed seven passes for 145 yards and another score to lead Wilmer-Hutchins over Poly.
Wilmer-Hutchins (6-2, 2-1 in 12-3A) held Poly (3-5, 1-2) to minus-9 yards offense. Poly had just three first downs.
Birdville 31, Fort Worth Boswell 10
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS — Xavier Turner rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown to lead Birdville (7-1, 4-1 in 5-4A) past Saginaw Boswell.
Arlington 69, Fort Worth Paschal 7
ARLINGTON — Josh Greer completed 15 of 24 passes for 215 yards and four touchdowns, all in the first half, to lead Arlington (5-3, 4-1)to a victory over Fort Worth Paschal in a District 4-5A matchup.
Madison 59, Carrollton Ranchview 3
Justin Edwards rushed for 116 yards and four touchdowns as Madison (5-3, 3-0)overwhelmed Carrollton Ranchview, in a District 12-3A game.
Lincoln 43, Spruce 21
Quarterback Erick Neal passed for 209 yards and three touchdowns as Lincoln (4-4, 3-1) rolled past Spruce in a District 12-4A contest.
Lake Dallas 52, Wichita Falls 34
WICHITA FALLS — Roman Mitchell of Lake Dallas returned two interceptions for touchdowns as the Falcons picked off Wichita Falls in a District 4-4A game.
