Baseball player of the week (5/23): Waxahachie's Kyle McLeroy
What he did: In Game 2 against Hallsville in the Class 4A Region II quarterfinals, McLeroy hit a three-run home run in his first at-bat. He threw a no-hitter in Waxahachie's 10-0 win, which completed a two-game sweep. He didn't allow a walk, struck out nine in five innings and allowed only one ball out of the infield. Of his 66 pitches, 45 were strikes.
Who is he? A 5-11, 175-pound left-handed pitcher and first baseman/right fielder
The stats: Before the Hallsville series, McLeroy was 6-5 with a 1.75 ERA and 95 strikeouts. As the No. 3 hitter, he was batting .374 with four home runs and 35 RBIs.
He said it: "I was just trying to get a win. … My arm was just feeling really good, so I went out there and tried to get ahead in the count and throw strikes."
