Baseball player of the week (5/16): Mesquite Poteet's Chad Young
What he did: In Game 1 of the Class 4A Region II area-round series against Whitehouse, Young struck out 15, allowing one unearned run in an 8-1 win. It was the 300th win in Texas for Mesquite Poteet coach Bobby Doe. In Game 2, Young helped Poteet complete the sweep, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs.
Who is he? A 6-0, 250-pound pitcher and first baseman
The stats: Young is 7-0 with an 0.71 ERA, 85 strikeouts and 14 walks. He has allowed six earned runs in 59 innings. He is batting .387 with six home runs and 25 RBIs.
