Bishop Lynch falls short in bid to win TAPPS 5A title
WACO — Patrick Leonard and Cavan Biggio powered Houston St. Thomas to a 4-3 win over Bishop Lynch in the TAPPS Class 5A baseball championship Friday.
Biggio hit a one-out solo homer in the bottom of the third to snap a 3-3 tie and earn St. Thomas (25-12) the crown.
After falling behind, 3-0, in the first inning, Bishop Lynch (20-18) tied the score with three runs in the third.
Andrew Gutierrez led off with a triple and scored on Nick Robinson’s double down the left-field line. St. Thomas starter Michael Rodgers plunked Mark Tomasovic, and Lucas Wearden followed with an RBI double. Andy Wearden’s single to left drove home the inning’s final run.
Bishop Lynch starter Jacob Foitek walked the game’s first two batters. Leonard then blasted Foitek’s 3-1 offering over the left-field fence.
Luke Stephens relieved Foitek with one out in the first and finished up, allowing five hits and striking out seven.
Shiner St. Paul 19, Rockwall Christian 10: Shiner St. Paul erupted for 10 runs in the fourth and cruised over Rowlett Rockwall Christian in the Class 1A/2A championship in Waco.
St. Paul (29-7) trailed 6-0 after two innings but started the comeback with a five-run third inning highlighted by Blue Hybner’s grand slam.
After relieving with two outs in the third, Hybner shut out
Rockwall Christian (17-6) the rest of the way, striking out nine.
